Learning

We would like the child to become an adult who has a vision for the earth, for the world, and for the universe

Tokyo Kenji-no Gakko, includes kindergarten, elementary, middle and upper school courses, all in one. We manage our school independently. Our school is based on the pedagogical ideas of Miyazawa Kenji and the teaching methods of Waldorf education. We aim to guarantee children an excellent international education that has firm roots in japanese traditional culture.

The principle of our school is in placing our children in the center, while the parents provide the environment where the teachers can soa true seeds in the hearts of the children.

Learning things Japanese

Our children learn about traditional Japanese culture. They practice Noh play. They also learn about the Ainu people, one of the original japanese tribes.

Learning things of the world

Our children learn about foreign cultures to become open to the world and understand what is presently happening on the planet. They study the cultures in Germany, Mongolia, Brazil, China, etc. We invite guests from some of these countries. They talk to our children about their native lands, and provide a window to the world. The student start to learn English in class1.

Learning from nature

The idea of ecology is reflected at our school. The children thank nature before they start to eat lunch. They practice “natural agriculture”which doesn’t eliminate inserts or cut wild grasses.

Learing about community

The children have no tests or term reports at the school, but they all keep up with the classes and are highly intelligent. This is because they learn the spirit of community through the classes, and help each other in learning, as well as in daily life.

Learning about the future

The children acquire deep knowledge, and learn about new technology. They will apply it fro peaceful solutions of the world.

Cooperation with the Waldorf teachers and officials from Germany

We have been supported by German Waldorf teachers, representatives of the teacher-training courses and officials of Waldorf education. Our children are invited to the 8th Waldorf Teachers’World Conference, in March, 2008, where they are going to perform “Nanazu-mai, which is a traditional popular dance of Japan, and also a Noh play.

Learning from the neighbourhoods

Our children enjoy a fine view of Mt. Fuji at the entrance of the school and the Tama River quietly flows in front. The children are blessed with beautiful nature and modern culture in Tachikawa-city.
